چکیده
: Nonembolic Occlusion of the Middle Cerebral and Carotid A rteries—A Comparison of Predisposing Factors • Selected clinical characteristics of patients with nonembolic occlusion of the middle cerebral artery were compared with those of patients with atherosclerotic occlusive lesions at the bifurcation of the common carotid artery. Unexpected differences were observed in the race-age distribution, in the presence of systemic vascular disease, and in the frequency of factors predisposing to atherosclerosis. The group with intracranial arterial lesions included more Negro patients than the group with lesions in the extracranial carotid artery. Ischemic heart disease, intermittent claudication and hypercholesterolemia were more frequent among the patients with extracranial cerebrovascular lesions, but the incidence of hypertension and diabetes was the same in both groups. These findings suggest differences in the etiological and pathogenetical mechanisms of the vascular disease in patients with extracranial and intracranial cerebral arterial occlusive lesions. Neuroprotective Effect of Paroxetine on Memory Deficit Induced by Cerebral Ischemia after Transient Bilateral Occlusion of Common Carotid Arteries in Rat
Aims:Memory deficit is the most visible symptom of cerebral ischemia. The hippocampus is sensitive against cerebral ischemia. Oxidative stress and inflammation are involved in the pathological process after cerebral ischemic injury. Paroxetine has anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects. In this study the effect of paroxetine on memory deficit after cerebral ischemia was investigated. Meth...

متن کاملCarotid angioplasty and stenting in a patient with high grade stenosis of Internal Carotid Artery associated with both vertebral arteries and contralateral carotid occlusion
Severe internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis is a common cause of cerebrovascular accident (CVA) in middle-aged patients. Contralateral carotid occlusion (CCO) in patients with severe ICA stenosis is associated with high risk of CVA. Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is associated with more complications in patients with CCO than those without CCO. In this study, we present the case of a 61-year-ol...
متن کاملCerebral Small Vessel Disease in Branch Retinal Artery Occlusion.
Purpose We investigated the pathophysiology of branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO) by evaluating the retina, brain, and carotid artery in patients with BRAO. Methods This study was a retrospective registry study. We used 46 eyes from 46 patients with acute BRAO and evaluated the medical history, including previous cardiovascular disease, and compared brain magnetic resonance images (MRI) a...
متن کاملProtective Effect of Delayed Ischemic Postconditioning on Embolic Stroke Complications in Female Rat
Background & Aims: Ischemic postconditioning, conducted by a series of brief occlusion and release of the bilateral common carotid arteries, has neuroprotective properties in permanent or transient models of middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion but its delayed neuroprotective effects in the embolic model of stroke, especially in female rat, have not yet been reported and were investigated ...
